Dr Chika Robertson

Entrances and Exits (March 2007)

As the recipient of numerous American prizes, Chika Robertson studied the violin with Shapiro and Delay. She led the LA Music Centre Quartet, led and managed the Schoenberg Institute's USC Contemporary Music Ensemble and was the operations manager for the LA Chamber Players. She performed regularly with numerous highly acclaimed ensembles including the Academy of St. Martin 's-in-the-Fields, Lontano and London Sinfonietta, giving many first performances.

In 1999 she was awarded a PhD in contemporary violin pedagogy and performing practice. She is passionate about education, and is currently Director of Music at Cranleigh Preparatory School and Professor of Violin at the Junior Academy , Royal of Academy of Music. She leads various orchestras as a violinist, enjoys adjudicating and has initiated a highly successful programme for teaching the violin from the age of 3 (“Fiddle Fun”) as well as “SongTrees”. She plays a Paolo Antonio Testore violin, dated 1737.
