Dr Lauren Stewart is a post-doctoral research fellow at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience, London. During her doctorate she studied how the acquisition of musical literacy changes the mind and brain. To do this, she trained 15 adult volunteers to grade 1 level keyboard and scanned them using functional magnetic resonance imaging, pre- and post- training.

A musician herself, she learned the clarinet and piano at the Royal College junior department and now plays in a classical ensemble as well as a rock band.
